Ball gown + Less Makeup = Chic

Every truly chic woman knows that wearing overdone hair and makeup with a gown looks passé. Hold back a little on the cosmetics and be a breath of fresh air in formal wear.

In this opening shot that I did for T,  Solange Knowles’ sultry eyes were accentuated with a sweep of black eyeliner on the top lid, a strongly defined brow and a touch of mascara. Her lips are purposely left bare. For your next red carpet moment think understated makeup with natural textured hair.

Wildflower Bambi Northwood-Blyth

This summer, photographer Tim Barber led our small caravan of  model, editor, hair and makeup across the California desert for a Muse Magazine road story. I dragged a suitcase full of cosmetics along the graveled roads, but used little more than sunscreen on beautiful Bambi.

The warm light of the sun and the magic of the lens did the rest…cont.below

To keep your summer glow right throughout the crisp days of autumn, dab and feather cream, stick or gel blush high on the center of your cheeks.

The Venice Biennale, Iris Brosch, Courtney Love, NYEHAUS!

Hello this is Natalie Braxton, producer of Iris Brosch’s latest performance, Requiem for Women, http://irisbrosch.typepad.com/ guest blogging for the ever so busy multi talented Regina Harris!

We’ve been working non-stop, late nights and early mornings! Regina is not only doing hair and makeup, but also costumes and choreography! In addition to that she also was in the performance!

The artist Iris Brosch and Regina Harris are no strangers to creating beautiful moments at the Venice Biennial, this year marked the exploration of solidarity amongst women despite hardship and brutality throughout the ages. The idea was to capture the essence of these inhumane acts against women, that still happen today and parallel it with very similar acts from the past.

If that wasn’t enough Regina was whisked away last minute to do hair and make-up for  Courtney Love, who was performing at a the opening gala for the NYEHAUS exhibition Venice in Venice! http://venice-in-venice.com/

Seriously, no cliches here… but how does she do it?

This is Natalie Braxton signing off and looking forward to the next installment of Regina Harris!

Get Ready for 2011. Part 2 Cut the C… Tips to cut down on Caffeine

Mmm, coffee, colas, tea, chocolate…. They have one thing in common. They all contain Caffeine, the world’s most widely consumed, used and abused psychoactive stimulant drug. A little may not bother us and may have some benefits. But too much is too much and could be hazardous to your beauty, health and sanity.

I discovered a great alternative beverage called Teeccino. It’s caffeine-free! It’s grind brews like filter coffee, tea, espresso, french press…It comes in many flavors. It is delicious. Check it out.

Another tip: make your first and last beverage of the day always a glass of water.

If you do have a caffeinated beverage use the one to one rule. Consume one glass of water per cup of coffee.

Try a variety of herbal teas. Rooibos tea is rich and caffeine free and comes in sophisticated blends. A great one is by Numi. Yogi Tea makes a great Tahitian Vanilla Hazelnut.

Some people are just genetically wired to be resistant to the effects caffeine.  They can have an espresso and off to bed. But if that is not you, learn your cut off time and stick to it.

Have a jolt free New Year!

Check out teeccino below:
